hot & grumpy

Friday 30 July 2004, 12:42 pm

It's too hot, Olivier won't sleep, and I'm grumpy.

Wahey! Let me rephrase that - Olivier just fell asleep! Olivier asleep But the rest of it's still true. Good thing I'm leaving for greener pastures this evening. To my parents, who (ahem) just had a swimming pool built in their back yard. See me swim...

(Now if I could only have the text flow around this image a bit better. A few pixels away from it on the right hand side, I mean. But how?)

Have a great weekend everyone!

yup, it's back

Thursday 29 July 2004, 9:04 pm

Holy smoke, I do believe I just got my period.

(If you're not female, please disregard this post. ;-))

After fifteen months without, it's back. Can't say that I really missed it, but I was getting just a teensy bit worried. Ok, I got so worried that I actually did one of those pregnancy tests last Tuesday. Which was negative, of course. Of course! Like I already knew deep in my heart. But sometimes a girl just has to be sure.

I mean - yes, of course Olivier will get a little brother or sister. If all goes well.

Just not now! :-)

yum?

I'm eating a Slimfast meal bar as I type. I'm not quite sure yet whether I like it or not. After about six bites, I almost had enough. Maybe that's the idea?

We've been checking out daycare centres in our soon-to-be hometown lately. They've all got waiting lists at least a mile long! Here in Amsterdam, finding a place for Olivier was no problem whatsoever. Theoretically, he can stay on in his old daycare centre after we've moved, but to say it's an ideal situation... no, not really. I think it's rather strange that there's not enough daycare available. I mean, so many people have a job and raise kids at the same time! It's a silly world.

slim it

Wednesday 21 July 2004, 8:12 pm

Since a week or two, Olivier's been on formula instead of breast feeding. I nursed him for 6 1/2 months, and could have probably done so for a few months more if I'd really wanted to, but I was ready to regain another small part of my life B.O. (Before Olivier :-))  Now, the time has come to stop eating like there's no tomorrow. Today was my first day to a new and slimmer me. :\

I am so hungry now. It's been over a year since I had to watch what I ate! My body's so used to snacks... to eating whenever I feel like it. But I do need to do this. Ever since Olivier's on formula, I've been gaining weight, and now I'm back to wearing the same trousers I wore after two or three months of pregnancy. Ouch. I'm not *fat*, exactly, but I'm much too chubby, if you know what I mean.

Wish me luck! :-)

new things

Saturday 17 July 2004, 11:45 am

I'm sorry about last night's grumpy post, but it's just no fun coming home like that. Sigh. Maybe I should make me a calendar, with days to be crossed off? Except I don't know for sure when we'll be moving. Hmm.

art nouveau mirror Anyway, I've been buying house things again! At an antiques fair in Belgium. :) Look! A beautiful Art Nouveau mirror for our hall - and it's genuine!  (P.S. So is the dog ;-).)

newspaper rack I also bought a small newspaper rack. Not so genuine, but pretty nevertheless. :)

I loooove house shopping...

back

Friday 16 July 2004, 10:16 pm

Back again. Not at all pleased to be back in this here appartment, but there's nothing we can do about that. I can't say that I'm rested either, because there's just no such thing as resting when you're away with a small child. It's not all that different from home; it's just the surroundings that differ. Oh, and the fact that you don't have to go to work. But apart from that, I think holidays with small children are severely overrated.

There were plenty of good things too - we got to go out for dinner, Pieter and me, and saw the latest Harry Potter (which is much better than the previous ones, by the way). We even got a little sunshine in Germany.

But being back here sucks, especially as the upstairs elephants saw fit to invite all their friends and family - again. I was all relaxed and forgiving when we drove here, but it's gone, just like that. Thanks very much folks, you really make me feel at home.

I'd better go plug my ears and get some sleep now. Maybe tomorrow will be a bit better.

murmuring

Friday 02 July 2004, 11:15 am

Well, Olivier kept quiet and our GP couldn't detect any heart murmur whatsoever, so I guess we're clear for now. He suggested we come back end of August for another examination, just to make sure, but added that there's absolutely no reason to worry. Phew!

By the way, we'll be away on holiday for the next two weeks, so I won't be around too much. First we'll go to a cottage in a German holiday park (I'd prefer to go camping, but that's just a bit too early for little Olivier...), and after that we'll spend a couple of days with my parents down South. Let's just hope it'll be a bit more sunny than it is now! Take care; I'll see you in two weeks!
