off they go

boxed!

I packed up two dolls this morning… Sniff!

Lavendula and Cuddly (no name for that one, cuddlies have to be named by their little owners!) are now on their way to the United States, where they’ll be reunited with my pink ballerina doll, Rosalina! :) I finished the cuddly yesterday evening, and for the first time ever, I am now confident about embroidering eyes! I’ve found that all I really need is one strand of embroidery floss, instead of the often recommended two or even three strands. That, and a good lamp plus a magnifying glass… Ugh. Whatever happened to my eyes? Must be middle age approaching… ;)

Anyhow! Crafting can now resume as normal – back to Gwendolina! Although I also found this extremely sweet pattern – Wasabi the Gregarious Pug. O!

Available from Rebecca’s Etsy store here.

It’s a little bit sad to say “good bye”… But they’ll find the new warm and loving home across the sea :)

I know you posted this a long time ago and you are very busy but I have found your site so very very helpful so I thought I’d take a chance and ask. I just finished – almost – my first doll and need some help with the face sewing. I have searched the web over and can’t find anything that tells me how to start. Where do I put my knot? Do I even use a knot? Can you help me? I don’t know if you have time for a tutorial, but whatever help you can offer would be great. Keep making those beautiful dolls.

    Hi Wendy!

Never too busy to answer questions!

I always start by doing the eyes. I take a very long needle and go in near the temple, making sure the spot will be covered by the wig later on. I don’t make a knot, I just leave a fair end hanging out. After stitching one eye, I return to my original spot and tie the thread to the bit I left hanging out. I then repeat the process from the other side to make the second eye.

For my mouth, I usually start at the back of the head, again using a very long needle, coming out at the front, going across and in again to make the mouth, coming out again at the back, but a bit farther away from where I started originally, and then I tie the knot. This gives you control over the indentation you’d like the mouth to make.

    Hope this helps!!

Thank you so very much. That does help. Now to be brave and just do it. I really like your site. Thanks again.
