new doll

Yay! Another doll done!
I made this one from a pattern in Karin Neuschütz’s book “Die Waldorfpuppe”. I had quite a lot of trouble attaching the arms & head to the rest of the body… so I’ll definitely be looking for another way to attach arms next time!

All she needs now is a name – and some clothes of course. But first, there are kiddies to be looked after, there’s dinner to be made… More time to be crafty later today!

head business, part 2

Christina mentioned a little while ago that one really should train one’s husband to make doll’s heads. Ah, if only he would, Christina. Don’t think I haven’t tried! But whenever I ask him to press down his finger on a piece of thread, so I can make a tight knot, he does this deep, deep sigh. No wait, I think it starts earlier, when I pull out my bag of sheep’s wool and doll fabric. Or just wave any random piece of string that could just possibly be used for tying heads. So yes, that still needs work.

Anyway. Not only did Christina dutifully train her husband (what am I doing wrong?), she also posted an extremely nice tutorial on how to avoid the (*gasp*) dreaded ghost neck. You can find it here: tutorial.

Now excuse me while I go think of new ways to hypnotize my husband into tying very tight strings.

bunnies

I’ve been thinking about bunnies a lot lately. The real life variety, that is. It’s all Stefanie‘s fault, really. :P She mentioned Angora bunnies. Said such a bunny would be much more practical than a sheep.

So yes, we need a bunny. But since I’d like to wait until at least we’ve moved to another house (if I can control my bunny-longing for that long), I needed a substitute. And I found it! Read about it here:

head business

I’ve made quite a lot of dolls in the past 13 years or so, but I’m still not happy with my heads. I do so need to find a method that fits! Something that lets me make heads that resemble each other in shape. The way I’m doing it now, it’s a pot luck, or so it seems. Sometimes it works, but mostly I’m not completely satisfied. I want things to be tidy and aesthetically pleasing, dammit! ;) Yes, I’m a Virgo, can you tell?

Well… I’ve been posting my Morris all over the place – Flickr, Ravelry, several Flickr groups, so you’ve probably all seen him anyway, but on the odd chance that you haven’t: please allow me to introduce… Morris! :mrgreen:

Made him from a pattern by Sarah, the My Love Baby pattern, I believe. I think I’ll be trying a jointed baby doll next time, instead of a one piece body, but Morris is perfectly cuddly just the way he is anyhow.

Dyed, washed and dried! My first ever home dyed yarn. I’m so pleased with it! I’m already saving onion skins for my next batch.

Look at me, I’m dyeing! :) My first ever dyeing experiment – I love it! The final result is a very beautiful soft orange colour, just what I had in mind for my doll’s hair. All I’ve got to do now is find *more* yarn. Just happened to see some on Ebay, right Stefanie? :D (No answer yet from the seller about strength of the yarn, but I think I’ll buy it anyway.)

I’m back! :) And I’ve been supercrafty these past two weeks. I’ve managed to knit 3 bunnies, 1 doll dress, 1 pair of doll longies and sew 1 doll’s body (by hand, because there was no room in the car for my sewing machine). Whew. I honestly don’t know which picture to show here! I think I’ll go with the bunnies, two of them at least. Or Lavendula wearing her new dress? See? I cannot choose! Perhaps I’ll just have to go to Flickr for a game of eeny meeny miny moe then?

Anyway. A lovely time was had by all, although Pieter and me both had a nasty cold. Not at the same time, fortunately, so there was always one of us who could run after the kids. Not that they run very far – Nynke not at all, but she did finally learn to stand upright, yay! And Olivier never has been a runner. SO the running was figuratively speaking. What on earth am I blabbering about? Must be the brain trying to catch up on all that lost computer time!

I still need to sort through the kids’ pictures – the crafts pictures have all been taken care of. Ahum. What does that tell you about me as a mother? *blush* Byeee!

Edit: as you can see, Lavendula and her new dress won. For now. ;)
