good girl, bad girl

Posted on april 22nd, 2008 @ 9:07 am in knitting,yarn by Meike

Happy Earth day.

I’ve been a bad girl. In spite of all my resolutions, I cast on another bunny. O my bad. It’s an urge I just cannot control. Need. More. Bunnies. I even ordered about every yarn this company sells, just to make more bunnies:

New Lanark Yarns

The yarn is organic, which is right up my street. I’ve been looking into organically produced yarn lately; more and more companies are picking up on it. Good.

Anyhow. I haven’t been all bad – yesterday, I also took up my Hickory Dickory Dot again. I got stuck on knitting the hem of the back closed, which is a bit of a pain (in the backside, har har). Easy enough, but just… a pain. But hey, that back piece does need knitting as well. So that’s what I’m doing. Can’t have my poor girl running around in half a sweater.

Plus, I’ve been learning myself how to knit Continental style. I’m not fast yet, not by any means, but I am getting there. My knit and purl stitches are beginning to look decent. Hurray! To celebrate, I’ve ordered a few balls of dishcloth cotton over at Astrid’s Dutch Obsessions, because what better way to practice my new found abilities? Dish cloths! Never thought I’d be knitting those one day. To be fair – I’m also going to use it to knit my friend’s soon to be born little boy the Mason-Dixon kimono sweater wrap thingy.

So. Enough to do! Let’s work first.

another WIP busted

Posted on april 20th, 2008 @ 10:50 am in knitting by Meike

Lizzie wearing her dressDone! Actually, I finished her a couple of days ago, but I was too lazy to write up a blog post. πŸ˜‰ I’m very pleased with the results – even though I knitted the straps a bit too long and then forgot to tuck them in a bit further to compensate when I was attaching them to the skirt. Hmph.

My husband remarked that Lizzie Bunny looked like a housekeeper wearing her apron (what’s that all about then??) so I added some Lazy Daisy stitching to make it more festive.

be gone WIP

Posted on april 14th, 2008 @ 3:13 pm in knitting by Meike

So. It’s not New Year’s, I am aware of that. But still. I’ve made a resolution. To finish all that’s in my WIP list before casting on something new. Yes. I will.

So I got off to a flying start this weekend by finishing this:

Lizzie

Isn’t she lovely? How I adore bunnies! One just can never have too many bunnies. Luckiliy, they think so themselves too. πŸ˜‰ Anyhow. She’s Lizzie, sister to Miles, and I made her from a Fuzzy Mitten (aka Barbara Prime) pattern – available here: pattern for bunny with dress.

Astute readers may have noticed that while our Lizzie’s supposed to be a bunny-with-dress, she doesn’t in fact have one yet. Er, yes. Well, she will soon – after I’ve finished work for today, cooked dinner, gotten the kids to bed. And so on and so forth. πŸ™‚

After Lizzie – and her dress – are done, it’s on to another dress, for my knitted doll (see post below). After that, who knows… My Hickory Dickory Dot, perhaps? Or that sad little gnome that’s been sleeping for so long now, headless & armless?

i cord, you cord

Yay! I learned how to do i-cord this morning! It’s incredibly easy, really, once you overcome your fear. And since this is the year of fearless knitting… My first one looked a bit weird, but the second one is nice & tidy, hurray! Now that I’ve gotten out the DPNs, I should really just leave ‘em out and jump straight to knitting in the round. Er… Fearless, you say?

presents

Posted on april 3rd, 2008 @ 8:52 pm in knitting, needle felting by Meike

presents for MareO, and before I forget – I can finally post pictures of the presents I made my new little niece Mare! She was born March 14. πŸ™‚

There’s a pair of Saartje’s bootees and a needle felted jingly ball. The bootees fit perfectly! I don’t think my sister was all that thrilled with the jingly ball, but hey, we can’t all like the same things. I had fun making it, that’s important too I guess.

knitted doll – wip

Posted on april 2nd, 2008 @ 5:51 pm in knitting by Meike

knitted doll - wipMy doll is slowly nearing completion. πŸ™‚ Body & limbs (that sounds so… macabre) have been knit & partially seamed – just need to stuff them and close the seams. Then it’s on to the hair & eyes. The original doll has ( I think) buttons or beads as eyes, but since I don’t have such small buttons I think I’ll embroider mine.

Anyway, I’ve also finished the panties and have just started on the tank top. Both are knitted in yellow Rowan 4 ply cotton on needles no. 3.
