I’ve got a new obsession. It all started in my favourite toy store – the one where they sell the quality toys, not the cheap plastic junk. Nynke got some money for her second birthday, and I thought: why not buy her a small cloth baby doll in a basket. Nynke’s a reall doll person, she’s always talking to them, making them comfy in her doll cradle. Unfortunately, my store didn’t have what I was looking for, so I went home sans doll and started a search with my fave online stores. Nothing came up. I had this vague idea in my mind of what her doll should look like – not the standard Waldorf baby doll.

And then suddenly, I found this:

A pattern for a  Dinky baby. And it is just exactly what I was looking for! Plus I’ll hopefully learn some new techniques – always on the lookout for new things to learn! Needless to say, my order’s been placed. All I need now is a pattern for a carrying basket, suitable for an 8 inch doll. Anyone?

wish list

I’m much too busy right now to take on anything new for a while, but once I’m done, this is what’s on my wish list. My to-make wish list, that is!

When I was in Amsterdam yesterday evening I saw this doll in the window of a renowned department store:

She’s made by Danish company Sebra, and I’d love to make something like that! I seem to remember having a crochet instruction book somewhere, maybe I should dig it up. ;) Don’t like the eyes though, they’ll have to go. And the hair will be quite different. Also, I’m not quite sure if I’ll be able to do the thumbs, seeing as my crochet skills are virtually non-existent… Perhaps I should just stick to my Waldorf dolls. (But if anyone knows of a similar pattern, please let me know! :) )

Then, there’s this sweetie:

Isn’t she lovely? I’ve already ordered the pattern, all I have to do now is get the materials.

Aaaaaand of course there’s the Winter nature table to be prepared! King Winter, some ice elves, snowy mountain backdrop, crystals…

Yup, lots to do! :)

little red book

Have you ever felt like there’s so much in your head that you just don’t know where to start? That’s me right now. Having finished Keiko and Carolina, there’s a dozen new dolls screaming to get out. A dozen ways to make their hair, a dozen different body types, a dozen different kinds of fabric… I should really just pick one and get to work, instead of wanting to make THE perfect doll in one go. Because that won’t work, and we all know it!

Therefore, I’ve started a little notebook. I’m jotting down all my ideas, illustrating them with drawings (not that I can draw, but hey…) and glueing in pictures that serve as inspiration. I’ll get there one day, I hope. When I’m 40 at the very latest. That’s six more years. Doable, or what? ;)

Until then, it’s play time. :mrgreen:

Things I would like to do:

  • sand & paint the doll’s bed we picked up at Pieter’s sister’s a few months ago
  • make a new blankie & pillow to go with it
  • finish *all* the dolls I’ve got lying around here. This includes making them clothes & shoes – knitted or sewn – and hair
  • crochet a doll’s hammock
  • knit more bunnies
  • finish the teddie bear I’m knitting
  • finish knitting Nynke’s Hickory Dickory Dot before she’s outgrown it
  • knit my children some play food
  • make a pin cushion
  • learn how to sew
  • learn how to spin
  • dye some more yarn

I mean, do I need more hours in a day, or what? *hangs head* Right. Need to get off the computer now! :)
